የኦሮሞ-አማራ ምሰሶነት ንድፈ-ሃሳብ በቀረበበት በዚህ ሰሞን ፡ አቶ ጃዋር መሃመድ በአልጀዚራ ቲሌቪዥን ላይ “መጀመሪያ ኦሮሞ ነኝ … ኢትዮጵያዊነት ያለፈቃዳችን ተጭኖብን ነው” ማለቱ ለሁለቱ መሰሶዎች ሊሂቃን አብሮ መስራት ፍላጎት የመጀመሪያው የአደባባይ ፈተና ሆኗል። ሁለቱ ምሰሶዎች አብረው መስራት የሚችሉት ለሁሉም ብሄሮች የሚበቃ ምህዳር ያለው ‘ኢትዮጵያዊነት’ ሲቃኝ ብቻ ነው። ሌላ አቋራጭ መንገድ የለውም።

– ኢትዮጵያዊነት እና አማራነት –

አማራዎች አንድ መሰረታዊ ችግር አለብን። እኛ አማራዎች ኢትዮጵያዊነትን እና አማራነትን ለይተን ማየት ተስኖናል። በተለይ አሮጌው ትውልድ በፍጹም ኢትዮጵያዊነትን ከአማራነት ፡ አማራነትን ከኢትዮጵያዊነት ለያይቶ ማየት የማይችል የአስተሳሰብ መካኖችን በብዛት አሉበት።

እኛ አማራዎች ‘አንድነት’ ስንል ‘አንድ አይነትነት’ ማለታችን መሆኑ ተነቅቶብናል። አሃዳዊት ኢትዮጵያ ለሁሉም ኢትዮጵያዊ ያልጠቀመች ኢትዮጵያ ነበረች። አሁን ብዙአዊት ኢትዮጵያ ነግሳለች። ብዙአዊት ኢትዮጵያ የጃዋር መሃመድ ኢትዮጵያ ናት። ብዙአዊት ኢትዮጵያ የሌንጮ ባቲ ኢትዮጵያ ናት። ብዙአዊት ኢትዮጵያ የዋለልኝ መኮንን ኢትዮጵያ ናት።

አማራዎች ሆይ! የዱሮዋ ኢትዮጵያ ተመልሳ አትመጣም። አማርኛ ቋንቋ ሁሉም የሚናገርባት ፡ ኦርቶዶክስ ክርስትና የተንሰራፋባት ፡ አርንጓዴ-ቢጫ-ቀይ ብቻ የሚውለወለብባት ያች ኢትዮጵያ በታሪክ መጽሃፍት እና በቪዲዮ እንጂ ወደፊት ልትመለስ አትችልም። የአሃዳዊ ስርዓት ናፋቂዎች እርማችንን እናውጣ!

– አዲስ ኢትዮጵያዊነት –

ባለፉት 22 አመታት ኢትዮጵያዊነት እንደገና ተቀርጿል ፤ አዲስ መልክ ተላብሷል። ኢትዮጵያዊነት የአማራዎች ሶፋ መሆኑ ቀርቶ ለሁሉም የሚበቃ ሰፊ አግዳሚ ወንበር ሆኗል። “መጀመሪያ ብሄሬን ነኝ ፡ ቀጥሎ ኢትዮጵያዊ ነኝ” የሚለው አስተሳሰብ በትግሬዎች ሲነገር ሃሰት ቢሆንም ፤ በምስራቅ ፡ ምዕራብና ደቡብ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ቢነገር ግን ሃቅ ነው።

ትግራያን የሚዘነጉት እውነታ ቢሆር አማርኛን ቋንቋ የኢትዮጵያ መንግስት ቋንቋ ያደረጉት አጼ ዮሃንስ መሆናቸውን ነው። ይሄን እውነታ እያወቁ የትግራይ ሊሂቃን ክህደት ውስጥ የገቡት ህወሃት በኦሮሞዎች እና በአማራዎች ላይ የፓለቲካ የበላይነት ለመያዝ ብሎ ነው።

በአዲሱ ኢትዮጵያዊነት ፡ ኢትዮጵያውያን ብዙ አይነት ማንነት አላቸው። ዜጎች አንድ አይነትነትን እንደ ኢትዮጵያዊነት አይቀበሉም። አቶ ጃዋር እንደገለጸው ፡ አንድ አይነትነት በግዴታ የሚጫን ማንነት ነው። በሰፊው ኢትዮጵያዊነት ግን ብዙ አይነትነትን የሚያስተናግዱ ፡ በፈቃደኝነት ላይ የተመሰረቱ ማንነቶች ተንሰራፍተዋል።

– የጃዋር ቁንጥጫ –

ጃዋር የቀድሞው ስርዓት ናፋቂዎችን ትዝታና የፓለቲካ ቱሪስትነት በንግግሩ ቆንጥጦታል። የትዝታ ፓለቲካ ለምንወድ የጃዋር ንግግር ያበሳጫል ፤ ንግግሩ ግን ታሪካዊ ጭብጥ ነው። የአገራችን የፓለቲካ ውጥረት በትዝታና በፓለቲካ ቱሪስትነት የሚፈታ አይደለም።

ለሁለቱ ምሰሶዎች አብሮ መስራት የአማራ ሊሂቃን የጃዋር መሃመድን ንግግር ያለምንም ቅድመ ሁኔታ መቀበላቸው የመጀመሪያ ፈተና ነው። ይሄን ማድረግ ያቃታችሁ የአማራ ሊሂቃን ፡ በተለይ በቀድሞው የአሃዳዊ ስርዓቶች ነፍስ ያወቅን ፡ ከትግሉ ጡረታ ውጡ። እናንተ ለሁለቱ ምሰሶዎች አብሮ መስራት ዋና እንቅፋትና ፡ መርዝ ናችሁና ገለል በሉ። መርዛችሁ ለኢትዮጵያዊነት መስፋፋት ፡ መዳበር እና እመርታ እንቅፋት ነውና ዞር በሉ:: አዎ! ዞር በሉ!!

  1. I totally agree with Yared. As he rightly said, “Old Ethiopia” is irrelevant now– It is an old hat. What today’s Amhara boys and girls should understand is that Ethiopia is being reconstructed, so they should join the Oromos, Sidamas, Somalis, Hadiyas, Afaris, and etc.

      Which one is first ? Harar or Borana Oromo!!!!! If you say Oromo First then the next question should be which group is first this is because if you go dividing or seeing things along a certain ethinic line then there is high chance to make even within an ethini group then which is first for you Harar or Borona Oromo, yours should be Harar oromo.

      To the readers, a given nation is built based on various ethinc groups then among that which one is first then all are first then Ethiopia will be First!! But some may believe their is first for them then how come these people will lead others. I am pretty sure Jawar will side for his ethinic group if he will be the president of the Nation. He already told us that. It is clear to conclude that he is below the level of the standard to be a good leader.

        It seems that you want to compare the Oromo roots to ethnic groups in Ethiopia. First, Oromoness has never been imposed to different clans and tribes of Oromos. Second, it is a natural process that everything starts from you, your family, community, province, state and the big picture, a country. Thirdly, there is no as such Harar Oromo! If you want to call by their clans you should study their roots. Because Oromo never called themselves I am Harar Oromo or I am Wollega Oromo. Why? the provinces name were also given through imposition, for the benefit of divide and rule. Cover before Discover.

      • Oromo is indivisible like subatomic particles. Do not try to divide Oromos along relgion and religion. Our common enemy is the Ethiopian empire. Yes, eben we oromos can have differences. But we have some common goods, one of which is standing for our in dependence in unison.

  6. Now some sensible Amhara is talking. What is amazing is the audacity of Amhara elites to define who an Oromo is. There are too many stories that are happening in every house and kitchen these days. This is a true story from my Amhara friend. There are some Amhara elites with whom we can still communicate although I would like to pack up my bag and join the Oromo independence camp at any notice of the last call.
    My friend went to visit his friends in a big city here in United States. His friend had invited a lot of former EPRP members whose age is in the 50’s and 60’s. They were discussing about the current situation of Ethiopia and their responsibilities. My friend was agitated. He did not like the direction of their political discourse. He did not want to participate in the discussion and kept himself aloof. His host was not happy about the attitude of his guest and he asked why he is shying away. The guest replied that he did not like the discussion, but the host insisted. He told him one thing. We are one ethnic group among many and how can we dictate our wish on others? The host openly declared that Amharas have a special responsibility, that their forefathers have built the country in a way that their children have to carry forward and that they would rather die than share that responsibility with any other group. The guest told them point blank that they were making a grave mistake, that they were judging their strength on emotion, that they were judging others with the old politics, that they were underestimating the desire of the Oromo people and that this is not the 1880’s. They made fun of him. They asked him since when he became an Oromo sympathizer? The guest saw the dangers that are brewing.
    One thing that should be clear to all Amharas is what oromos say among themselves. We can handle the enemy we know much better than they think. We were taken for a ride by the Tigreans, but that will not be the case for Amharas.

He doesn’t understand what the question the Amharas are asking, I am an Amhara, I understand mutual respect, if people like Jawar want to live with me in Ethiopia, we both have to sit and explore how we live together or go our separate ways. He doesn’t have any right to tell me how he was made an Ethiopian as I do not have any right to ask him to be one. Do not insult me, I will not insult you, but if you cannot accept this basic principle, my reply will be GO TO HELL!!
    Yared and Jawar have one common problem, they generalize all Amharic speakers or Amharas in one sentence, although we all speak the langugage and share an ethnic group, we also have different opinions about our country. In Ethiopia everyone benefits when we are together, and everyone loses when we fight about the history of Ethiopia. The most important objective should be HOW TO CREATE AN ETHIOPIA THAT IS DEMOCRATIC AND SERVES ALL ITS CITIZENS EQUALLY. Telling me about your grudges that I do not feel responsible in any way doesnt help any one.
    Jawar and his likes have no right to tell me about what others have done to their fathers and grand fathers and expect me to apologize, THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN, because if we have to discuss Ethiopian history, we have to discuss about the Oromo immigration and the damage that it caused at the time.
    Oromos kill people when they were expanding, they pushed the Amharas to where they are mainly concentrated today, if the Amharas were trying to get power or get into war with the Oromos, then that should be seen from historical perspective. I never asked Jawar or Yared to speak Amharic, if they so choose they can speak whatever language they want, I don’t get any benefit when they speak Amharic, and I don’t lose any if they do not speak Amharic.
    The evil minds of Isayas and meles with their criminal gangs have created this psychological war to keep people fighting while they loot the country. We might be fighting for a while, but when we wake up one day THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT TO FIGHT ABOUT. The Africans were quoted once as saying ” The missionaries came to our country and they told us to close our eyes and study their bible, by the time we open our eyes, they took all our land and there was nothing left for us” In this example our ethnic infight resembles their “bible study and prayers”.

      • Abera, there no archaeological or ethnographic data that support the deptera written myth of ” Oromo Migration”. Such senseless myth is true only for debteras and existed only in the minds of debtera and their followers. Oromo has been on its mountains and vallies even before Abysinians migrated to North Africa from Arabian peninsula.
        As to the untold history of Ethiopian Oromo mothers whose breasts were cut, Oromo elders whose limbs were cut, Oromo kids who grew up with out mother and father, millions of innocent Oromo nationals massacred by Menelik, we the survivors will continue telling the whole world to know it. We are not telling this to people who take pride in ignorance. We are telling this to all humanities so that such injustice and barbarity will not take place somewhere on this planet again.
        I have no doubt that one day future generation who share the legacy of Menilik will apologize for the barbarity of their ancestors and create better understanding with their Oromo brothers and sisters.

    • Abera M. The problem of most Ethiopians like you is that you consider your ethnic groups as pure Ethiopians while others are migrants. The false narratives coiled during the last centuries by Amhara rulers/kings and their acsscoiated clergy the sickness to consider Oromos and other Cushitic people as outsiders that migrated to “their Ethiopia’. Unless the Abyssinians stopped their false narratives of Oromo migration, which was not actually done – Oromo has never migrated into Ethiopia. All the north eastern part of Africa is a native place for all Cushitic people (kunama, Salo, Affar, Somali, Oromo, Hdiya, Sidama, Kambata, Halaba, Gedeo, Walitta, Gammo, etc) and the Habasht that were considered to have come from Yemen. The Hbashat came to North eastern Africa from Yemen and settled very long ago and settled among the Cushitic people including Oromo. If Oromo didn’t consider the Habashats (the so called Semites)as immigrants, why are the Habashat consider the Oromos as migrants to Ethiopia? How can be considered as migrant in his own land/country even when real migrants were not considered as migrants? This is the sickness of the Abyssinians that need to ne treated before they dismantle this country/Ethiopia due to their ignorance of history and only believing what their false historians and their European collaborators told them as history of Ethiopia. The European collaborators of Amhara kings wrote history of this country in such as way that they please the kings that bribed them to write history in the way they liked it to be. My advice is that stop even mentioning Oromo migration of 16th century. It was rather to be considered the era of Oromo to get organized under Gada leadership to gain the territory they last to Amhara rulers starting from 12 century. Secondly, the history of Habashat is for the Habeshas not for other indigenous people like Oromo, Kambata, Sidama, Beja, Saho, Eron, Kunama, etc. Everyone nation and nationality has its won history and we may also have common history as we were living in the same geographic area- be it war related where one wants to eliminate the other or common history of fighting invaders coming from out of the region. But denial of history and crimes committed by kings and dictators of this country will not be a solution to peacefully live together. Denying Oromos that they are migrants to so called ‘Ethiopia’ will take us nowhere. Denial of the crimes done by followers of Minilik on the residents around Anole where breasts and right arms of peaceful inhabitants of the area were mutilated by Minilik forces Chalanko massacre where Oromo and Harari residents that resisted the conquest of Minilik. There were so many of this kinds of massacres committed by the colonizing Empire builders in Oromia and Southern people of the country among which Waliatta, Gammo, Kambata, Sidama, Oromo, Somali are some. So, it is good to be rationale in interpreting the existing one sided history of this Empire than simply indulging into conclusion to accept the existing history as real. we need to come to consensus on our history and many other issues that this Empire has carried out to this generation.

      Jawhar is a 28 years jouing boy. When OLF was in Ethiopia he was 5 years old. If Jawhar killed your Oromia people in Bedeno at the age of 5, we Oromo will pay Guma and he is not responsible for a crime at the age of five. This is Oromo gada system which we are operating till the Ashenge mountain in Raya. We don’t kill people for mistaken killing, not at all for a crime done at the age of 5.

If you accept democracy then you have to accept the rights of nations and nationalities. You cannot preach about democracy while you are against self determination of nations and nationalities.     • Tazabi, as your name implies you are onlookers of the politics and history of this country and you lacked lot information as to how we reached where we are now. if you whish to know, I will raise the following issues some of which already got partial solution to create a conducive environment for all the people of this country to peacefully live together. 1) there was popular questions – land to the tillers and this got some response during the Derg regime. Land was proclaimed to be the property of the people and the state. 2) there was also national question and this got partial response during the EPRDF regime by arranging federal system of self government. 3) oppressed people were not still satisfied with the existing federal arrangement and needed more autonomy. It is this that brought about the ousting of EPRDF regime – the question was for more autonomous decentralized regions but not to bring about a unitary system of administration where one language (Amharic) and one culture and one religion will be the dominant ones. This dream of the chauvinists will not have any place in today’s Ethiopia. Where people are asking for more regional level self administration, the dream of these ignorant and selfish people who were promoting for one country with one language and culture has to be stopped if they really want this country to continue to the next generation. Otherwise, we may end in destruction that finally being about disintegration of this Empire.

I remember how my grand father back in the 1950 used to inoculate me with this unforgettable heroic deeds of his grand father with the Minilik army while expanding towards Arusi and Bale before he was martyred at the hands of barbaric Arusies. . He said that he believed that God placed Ethiopia in the hands of the Amhara of all the people and because of his blessing the campaign to unite Ethiopia was a success. My grand father before his death held my hand and said to me that I should uphold the sacrifice of his own grand father and keep Ethiopia united under one flag and one language. Doing the opposite he said would be violating God’s choice. The strongest advice he gave me was to protect Ethiopia from being harmed by the gallas. He said despite Minilik and Haile Sellassie trying to make them Ethiopians the devils inside their mangled brain will resurrect from time to time to harm Ethiopia. I hope most Amharas with patriotic family history in the building of Ethiopia may have the same story to tell and we shouldn’t let them and Ethiopia down.

    I am Ethiopian and I never identified myself by my ethnicity when it comes to nationality. But I am proud to decalare my root too(ethnicity).

    I was a graduating class when woyane occupied the country.One of my class mates was woyane supporter form Tigray ofcourse. We often had lots of fervent discussion about the fate of our country in the future. Some oromo students in the class miscalculated and were so happy about “that unfamous article of right to succeed” thinking they will follow the foot steps of Eritrea-with blessing from woyane.
    Most students from Tigray supported woyane-whatever its policy was and signed into membership to Tigray development agency/EFFORT.

    One day in our discussion with Tigray students an interesting question rose. According to TPLF/Woyane each new Kilil was supposed to be governed/adminstered/led by some one “elected” from that region. But we all have noted that the deputy leader-often the most decision making person-who is a Tigrian in orign(TPLF/woyane) was assigned beside that leader who is form the kilil. We asked them if they could explain that if they understand why. The reason we were told was that the Oromos, the SNNPs etc were not able to rule themselves!!
    For me that was equivalent to stating the rest of “Ethiopians” except some are either not “equally Ethiopian” or they are utter stupids.
    I can tell you I am one of the people who grew up singing and hearing “Agere Ethiopia limilamesh mamaru…” etc.

    Though that was great, we hear many grieviance about the way the Ethiopian unity was sustained and being sustained now. We know how different ethinic groups proud in their own right have been called “names” because they were apparently dominated. Let me tell you some of us have fled our country simply because the Ethiopia we know does not see all Ethiopian equal; does not share opportunities equally to all citizens. There is no level ground to serve the country equally. Some are more Ethiopian than others. How many memorial status do we have for heros from other Ethinic group in the country? Most of us grew hearing stories/histories about Yohannes, Theodros…? Where are our other heros? I have no problem lifting these names high but we have to be proud about our heros form every ethnic background as well. I am sure there are many.
    How many of u, who love the united Ethiopa, are willing to speak Oromifa, Guragigna, sidamigna or other tongue if necessay. In some past in Addis it was inconvinent to speak in mother’s tongue if not in amharic. Speaking English was considered as evidence of class.
    We need to start respecting the values we have as a nation first before we really declare we are one nation by force. In most SNNP regions Amharic is understood and spoken fairly. Will we be proudly able to introduce one of southern or oromo languages in a class in a school in Tigray/gondar?…. Are u ready for that? That far or more we should be able to tolerate.

    In conclusion, it is time we address all grieviances while building our unity and our future. Although I admire the nationalistic view of some people as it appears in some comments(specially older generation), we won’t be going any where without addressing our differences and grieviances. “Alebabisew biyarsu barem yimelesu”.

    • Menelik did what the Oromos did against Amaras in the preceeding 300 years. They killed many and conqured the entire Wello and other regions of Amara such as Wellega and the Lakes region. All these areas were belonged to Amaras. Tewodros kicked them back and Menelik completed the job by forcing them to submit. He didn’t even kill them. The Amaras and Oromos started living together until the Agames came in 1993. To live together, they used Amaharic. If using one language amounts to oppression, then you are still oppressed because your are just using broken English. Things are different right now. If you go to Oromia region, the oromos are in fact the oppressors. I suggest for the Oromos to go to Madagascar where they came from. That will be the end of the story. Jawar mentioned resources, what resources? Coffee is not a resource. Even that land was snatched from the Amaras generations ago. Menelik simply reclaimed that. Assuming that the oromos belong to the current Oromia, the truth is Oromia has only tress and fools, nothing else. I encouraged them to segregate to where they came from and go.

      • Where did you get the narratives that Oromo took Wallo from Amhara and a larger territory from Amhara including the lakes region of Easter Africa? The reality was the reverse one – Oromo and other Cushite used to live in the north eastern part of African as these people belonged to the ancient civilization of the Nile valley from Egypt to Napata and Meroe and Axum and other horn of Africa regions. The so called Amharas were late comers if at all we have to accept their being in the horn of Africa. If you talk and talk only about unity with out diversity it leads us to worse conditions. The question of diversity is not raised by TPLF alone. Many other organizations are struggling for it. I participated in fighting Derg and I am fighting Weyane, To me being Amhara is the new name that the communists use to massacore my people. As if there was a time in history that the Gojjamies never rebelled against oppression, communists accuse us as neftegnas. Please do not get blinded by your bankrupt ideology. Gojjam is Agew, Oromo, Beni-Shangul & Amhara. We communicate in Amharic among the other languages. The Gojjamie peasants rightly identify their enemies as rulers, not ethnic groups. The Oromo Democratic Front is doing the same thing. Mr. Lencho, Dr. Dima and others have clearly indicated that there is no animosity among people. The whole idea of unity with diversity is not new to Ethiopia. Thus recent development to bring Democratic Fores together is a noble idea. Let us talk about Unity with mutual respect.

  55. I feel sometimes sorry for the Amharus and mostly I don’t. The fact that they have lost their power monopoly to the nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia that makes them so angry; I understand that. The fact is Amharas are also equally treated under the EPRD just like all other nations unlike their previous discriminatory system. I do not feel sorry for them mostly because these people in addition to oppressing other ethnic groups have also made Ethiopia so backward and underdeveloped it was justified to overthrow them.     The supreme irony about Amhara politics is that even Ginbo7 is refusing to use Amhara card to play its politics. Dr Birhanu and Andargachew have realised that using Amhara card will not gain them any support among non-Amharas who do not trust their chauvinism. You don’t see even Amhara at the top of Ginbot 7 leadership. We also heard from Dr Birhanu Nega that Shaebia doesn’t want the new Amharas organisation that is operating in Gondar and wanting Ginbot 7 to work only with TPDM. Now you see, the Amharas are just barking standing on sand just to be blown away from all direction. No body is interested in them and would like to work with them. As long as the Amharas refuse to change their backward mentality they will remain in limbo for ever. They should official state loud and clear that they will accept the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the rights of its diverse peoples. How childish or stupid that is to try to fight the whole Ethiopian peoples to reverse the rights won through bitter struggle and sacrifice.     I am not ye amahra lihik or yetuorist politikegna. But I think Jawar is totally confused and wrong. He mixed up his obsession in ethnic politics with his upbringing as a muslim. He told us that Oromos are oppressed people but now he tells us that Oromos were strong enough to protect not just themselves, but muslims as well. As to those who long for the old days, I agree with you. They should step aside. But unless you are blinded by your ethnic lense, those who long for the old days are not just amharas. By the way, for me those who long for the old days are those who do anything to stay in power, those who do not believe in freedom of people to choose their own leaders, those whose who do not hesitate to twist the truth and history to fit their agenda. I think that list includes Jawar.
    Finally, I agree that a new Ethiopia is being created, but not the way Yared describes.

Why are there oromo speaking people in other african countries? No one denies the right of using ones language. I even expect Oromifa to be national language b/c tehre are 11 offical languages in SA. But Zulus never asked a new country or Xhosas never asked a country, Pls don’t get into illusion of creating a non-existent country.
